Day 62. We had coffee at the local bakery before we departed beautiful Coral Bay. We have really enjoyed our couple of days here, especially the fine warm weather. Down the Coral Coast today, rolling red sandhill country with lots of wild flowers. Crossed the Tropic of Capricorn and noticed a temperature change! We stopped for a few days at the small port town of Carnarvon, first settled in 1876, on the banks of the mighty Gascoyne River which runs 764km. Plantations of bananas, tomatoes and other fruit and vegetables, being the winter food bowl of WA with its 176 plantations. Set up the van in a lovely van park, Winter Sun CP, on Robinson Street just outside town in the middle of tomato crops. A short drive into town and to the famous 1 Mile Jetty before we settled in to watch the Bledisloe Cup rugby match. Dinner tonight braised steak and onions with veggies at the van. Warm 29 degrees, drove 240km. No wind.
