Day 74. Today we are spending the whole day in Perth City. We caught the 9.15am bus to Stirling, then the light rail into the city. We were very impressed with the speed and efficiency of Perth's transport system. Walked out of the train station straight into the Murray and Hay Street Malls, so much life and activity. After coffee we boarded the free red bus and hopped off near Kings Park where we spent several hours walking amongst the wildflowers with scenic views to the city and Swan River. Lunch in the Botanic Gardens Cafe and then back onto the bus for a tour of the city. Hopped off again at the Perth Mint for a very entertaining tour including gold pouring, nuggets and historic robberies. The massive Queen Elizabeth gold coin was on display weighing 1,000 kg and worth $57 million! We also handled a gold bar worth $300k and stamped our own coin with our names and motto 'carpe diem'. Strolling up the street we entered St Mary's Cathedral, a beautiful interior with stained glass windows. Hopped back on the bus for another circuit of the city, many solid old sandstone buildings and corner pubs. We finished our day with a stroll through London Court, Trinity Arcade, Hay Street Mall and back to the train station for our short trip north to Karrinjup. Dinner tonight pink snapper wrapped in foil and steamed on the barbecue with lemon and butter with a tossed salad. We have been extremely fortunate with the weather on our whole trip, today a brilliant sunny 25 degrees, but the forecast is for some rain over the next couple of days.
