Our second day trip out of Dawson Creek was to Tumbler Ridge. Just outside of Dawson Creek, we passed a ridge with windmills. Close to Tumbler Ridge, many more windmills appeared on the high spots. Clearly, this area generates a lot of power through wind and water.

Tumbler Ridge has the distinction of having the Dinosaur Discovery Gallery - the only facility of its kind in BC. In 2000, two boys aged seven and eleven were playing along the river when they found marks they pretended they were dinosaur tracks. After a while, they began to think they were likely made by real dinosaurs. Encouraged by their families, they contacted paleontologists who were temporarily working in the area. They were put in touch with the appropriate people, and in 2001, their discovery was confirmed to be authentic. The end result is a revitalized community and ongoing discoveries of fossils in the area. There are also countless hiking trails - the visitor centre has brochures rated by level of difficulty. The area has many waterfalls reachable only by these trails.

We had packed a lunch so, on the advice of the helpful lady in the visitor centre, we drove to the golf course parking lot to eat. They have picnic tables there with a magnificent view of the valley below.

Although it was rainy off and on, we enjoyed the trip. Coming back, there were rainbows ending in pots of gold (golden trees). Nice view!
