Monday morning (Aug 24/15), we left the Hazelton area and turned north on Hwy 37 - today's objective Stewart BC and Hyder Alaska. We stopped briefly in the Gityanow Historic Village and checked out the totem poles. Pretty impressive! Moving on, we traveled north to Meziadin Junction where we turned west on Hwy 37A - ending the day in Stewart BC. Along the way, we saw a bear cub (who disappeared too fast to snap his photo) and a mama bear and cub (got them!) When we reached Stewart, we were fortunate that our pre-trip provisioning included extra water and sewer hose lengths as the only campsite available in Bear Creek RV Park had the services on the wrong side for our trailer. Some creative engineering had everything flowing the right way. Dinner that night was at the King Edward Hotel where Pat ordered a King Eddy Burger. It was so big, he had to deconstruct it and eat it with a knife and fork.

First thing Tuesday morning, Pat took the truck in for a lube and oil job then we headed for Alaska - only a short drive to Hyder on the Alaska Panhandle. We stopped at the Fish Creek Wildlife Viewing Boardwalk but did not see any bears L - lots of live and dead salmon and birds feasting. Continuing up a sometimes pretty rough gravel road, we reached the viewpoint for the summit of the Salmon Glacier (altitude1122 m) - the fifth largest glacier in Canada. Spectacular views along the way - although I was not terribly comfortable with the steep drop-off on my side on the way down! FYI - our gas consumption with truck only was 10 MPG for the 65 mile round-trip from sea-level Hyder. Tomorrow, we hit the road again for ???
