A short drive from Telkwa, Hazelton was an interesting stop. We spent the night in the 'Ksan Campground and took a guided tour of the Historical First Nations Village, explored the museum and then just kicked back. Retirement is so great!!
What a difference 60 years makes!! When I (Pat) was a kid, my bike (an ultra-modern 3 speed Raleigh) had chrome fenders front and back, a chain guard, and I wore a pant clip - all to keep clean and dry. No helmets, no safety concerns, but staying clean!
This afternoon, sitting at the bench in the campsite, watched 2 young kids flying around on their little wide-tired trick bikes. One of the kids is yelling - "Mom, Mom, Mom - can we get wet!!? Mom says "I don't care." So off they go, as fast as they can, blasting through all the puddles they can find that are left over from the heavy rain yesterday! No fenders, no chain guard, but wearing helmets! Good-on-'em. They had a streak of muddy water up the front, and up the back. Looked like fun!
We are here for 1 night only, and want to do some sightseeing tomorrow. Went into the office and asked "when is check-out time tomorrow?" Answer - "whenever." Cool - fits our new lifestyle.
In the morning, we drove into Old Hazelton - about 500m from the campground, had coffee and did a little walkabout. Unfortunately, the museum did not open until 7 PM so we carried on our journey.
