Our first day trip out of Dawson Creek took us to Chetwynd, which has an annual chainsaw carving competition that attracts carvers from around the world. Many of the entries are on display around town - over 140 at last count. We drove around and admired the variety of subjects - from nature to a hockey goalie to fantasy creatures. Wonderful artistry!

From Chetwynd, we continued to the Peace Canyon Dam where we stopped at a lookout to view the operation.

Next, on to Hudson's Hope, site of the WAC Bennett Dam. We stopped in the townsite and enjoyed their museum, along with the lovely park. Larger towns could take notes from this place! The museum is in a former Hudson's Bay store, built in 1942 and functioning as a store until 1954.

The WAC Bennett Dam was disappointing in that the huge Visitor Centre is only open from the May long weekend until Labour Day. Such a big expense to be open for such a short season. The dam itself was very impressive. We learned a lot about how power is generated from the signboards outside.
