Quite windy today so thought a walk down into the valley might give us some respite. We decided to go down the Giant Stairs which are behind the 3 Sisters and they certainly lived up to their name. Probably not for anyone with a fear of heights as some of the metal stairs have a big drop when viewed through the steps! Eventually got to the Federal Pass track and a much flatter walk through the forest and away from the wind. Had our lunch near the bottom of Katoomba Falls before checking out the Scenic Railway as it disgorged thousands of tourists! The walk up until now had been very quiet. We opted to ascend via Furber Steps rather than the railway and we had it mostly to ourselves. The ‘selfie stick brigade’ all chose the railway! Lots of nice lookouts on the way up and we ended up at the cable car station at Scenic Wold where the noise level went from screaming cockatoos to screaming children! Resisted the temptation to purchase such exciting items as Chocolate Coated Koala Poo and instead returned to the caravan for a cuppa before a drive to Blackheath and Evans Lookout then back to Katoomba for a drink at the Echo Point Bar.
