Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
The Old Telegraph Track was constructed during the 1880's to send morse code messages between Cairns and Thursday Island via repeater stations. The line was upgraded to radio during the 1940’s and the last message sent along the line was in 1962 when communications were upgraded to microwave repeater towers.
The Peninsula Development Road was built in the 1970’s to replace the old track. We are doing the OTT the unconventional way but never the less conquering it. Leaving the camper at Gunshot we drove south down to North Alice Creek. Bertie Creek is really nice and also has a nice camp a little further down the river if you take the side track. It has large sharp-edged potholes and on the other side a large drop off. Dulhunty would also be a nice spot to camp and the creek has small potholes with a rock base to drive across. The OTT has a few sections of cross ups but generally I would consider it an easy track.
Spent the afternoon playing in the creek at Gunshot and then had a cook up in the camp oven.
We left our mark at the Gunshot.
