I got up today, usual time, to go to my project with Caitlin. We met up with one of the children along the way. It was so cute because she wanted to hold my hand the whole way up the mountain (to our project). The day started with the usual songs that the kids sing before entering into their respective classrooms. Today, we were going to try to match things that rhymed. On the kids' worksheet there were the drawings of a avion, casa, tetera, and below were drawings of other things that potentially rhymed with the three things.
Recess came along, and so did the Spaniards...right when I thought that Caitlin and I were starting to win the popularity battle against them, they decide to bring...badminton rackets! I can see all the kids run towards them while the soccer balls were left, deserted. At this time, Kacy asked me to come with her to the little administration office to see Gracie. Gracie is the coordinator of the center. She told me that I had to write down what items that I brought to donate. I had also taken the opportunity to mention my concern about the amount of vulunteers there were right now. She had told me that she was aware and that she going to handle it by moving the Spaniards to the afternoons instead. Nicolas 1, Spaniards 0...game over!
When I got back to recess I played frisbee with one of my favorites, Ruth Kelly. She is such a cutie! I noticed that Margoth was talking with one of the Spaniards about today's work. We were going to learn about the number 2. Kacy had also approached me to remind me about teaching her kids the colours in English, however, I thought it would be best, since Caitlin was back, that she teach the colours.
During the afternoon period, Monica, one of the Spaniards was going to be teaching the rest of the day. I helped out with the activities. I did not seem that upset anymore because I knew that she was not going to be here on Tuesday (Monday was another holiday).
After my project, I was going to meet up with my tandem again. I arrived at Maximo Nivel at 2pm, and waited for him in the computer room until 3pm. He did not show up. Luckily, I was also meeting up with Sabine and we were going to go visit some museums today. I had also given money to Logan because I wanted her to pay for my seat for tomorrow (We were going white-river rafting!). I asked Paul (my new roommate) if he wanted to come with us today as well. Sabine was also bringing to of Hassan's new house mates (Wes and Brian, from Massachusetts).
We met up at the Museum of Corichancha. This museum housed different artifacts from the Inca period (although many of them were replicates). It was a site on my boleto touristico (the tourist pass for Cuzco). The museum really sucked (for lack of a better term). We were in and out in less then 20 minutes. There were only 5 small exposition rooms with no explanations on the what was on display. We decided to do another museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art. This was a much better museum, showing amazing and provocative works of art from 2008-2009. Many of them contained so much symbolism that one would not know what was being conveyed had they not have known a little of Inca history.
Paul needed to get back, and me and Sabine still had time before supper (we were going for pizza tonight because it was going to be one of Barbara and Jeremy's last nights. We decided to walk around the plaza looking for good excursions (and prices) to do in the coming weeks.
It was about 6:30pm, and we went back home to my place. Tyler and Kevin went the other night to a pizza place which they swore was the best pizza they had ever tried. They convinced all of us to go there. The name of the place was "Pizza Car". We lived in a university neighbourhood so there were a lot of pizza places nearby. Where we were going was only three blocks away. We were a big group (about 10), since Maritza and her cousin Marissa were also coming.
The restaurant was very cosy, and looked like a cottage. On the left of where we were sitting was a huge fire oven that took up almost the whole wall of the restaurant. We were going to order two of their biggest size (el gigante), which is roughly an 18 inch pizza. We ordered a pepperoni and and pollo (chicken). The pizza was AMAZING!! Thin crust, lots of cheese with toping all the way to the edge. Whom would have thought that the best pizza that I have ever tasted would be in Peru! I think I ate at least 8 pieces of pizza...
The walk back home was a bit rough (I think I had to undo my buckle). However, I was still hungry for dessert. Our usual supper was waiting for us at home (with dessert). So I had a piece of cake, and was ready to crash into my bed. I was not in the mood to go out because a) I was getting up early to go rafting tomorrow and b) I was going to save my energy for tomorrow night...
