Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
Viking offered an optional tour to Versailles this morning. Since we had already gone there on a bike tour a week ago, we decided to stay in Le Pecq to enjoy a relaxed morning. After breakfast, we went on an hour and a half walk alone the Seine. There was a path through a wooded promenade that led to a local park. There were a few animals there for kids to enjoy. We went back to the ship for lunch on the outside terrace. They had soup, salad, steak, baked potatoes, fries, ribs, and waffles for desert – a nice “light” lunch. After lunch we went on the included tour to Napoleon’s Chateau de Malmaison. It was his and Josephine’s home. Like the Louvre and Versailles it was amazingly ornate, just on a smaller scale. This evening I had the best lamb I have ever had. It was a lamb shank that had been marinating and cooking slowly for two days. It melted in my mouth but not at all mushy. As was the case throughout the cruise, the service from our waiter, Nickolas, and his assistant, Mickael, was impeccable. Throughout the cruise, Mickael saved corks for Bonnie and gave her 3 bags full. We have to have our bags out by 6:15 in the morning and catch a bus to the train station at 7:15. The good thing is that the next time we will see our bags they will be in our cabin on the next ship.
