Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
We spent the day today on the bike tour to Versailles that we booked thru Bike About Tours. We met the group of 12 and the guide, April, at Notre Dame about 8:30 in the morning. April also has her own tour company - parisforyoutours.com. We got to Notre Dame early and had a chance to go inside the Cathedral - an impressive building - it's hard to imagine the construction back in the Middle Ages. The group took the subway/rail to Versailles where we picked up our bikes. Our 1st stop was a local market where all picked up what we wanted for lunch. Bonnie and I got a large baguette, some cheese and a bottle of wine. We spend the next many hours riding and walking around the huge grounds of the palace. A highlight was going to The Queen’s Hamlet built as a place for Marie Antoinette to escape from the Court. About 2:00 we stopped for lunch where we all shared our food. April was having a friend visit and we were able to give her some of our unused food - we all got too much but it was cheap. We were lucky with the weather. It was supposed to rain all day but it ended up being cloudy with just a few very light showers. It felt good with all the riding we were doing. After lunch it was time to actually go inside the palace - the line was huge. We joined it at 4:00 and got in at around 5:00. It was extremely crowded and warm inside but it was worth it. The Hall of Mirrors is awesome. We then took the rail back to the city and got to the hotel around 7:00. It was time to rest up a little and then get dome dinner. We were tired and did not want to search for a place to eat so went to the same brasserie we went to a couple of days ago. The food and service were again excellent.
