All alone in the big wide world
Day 1:
Left Delhi at 05.00am this morning(Thank God) Via the Express train to Haridwar. Got a taxi to the train station with Dan and Georgina- as we were getting out of the car at the train station, Dan managed to open his door onto an oncoming vehicle. I could see this happening but, you know when you cant open your mouth as your in some kind of a trance. Well that was part of my excuse for not saying anything but the devil inside wanted to see what actually happened when a car struck a door?? NOT GOOD was the answer it scraped all the side of the oncoming car and buckled our poor taxi drivers care! After 5mins of English Vs Indian Dan finally buckled and gave him 500rps! Got on the train for a 5hr journey and sat next to two nice older Indian women, well I thought they were nice until halfway into the journey they disappeared and left their bags under the seats and in the luggage compartments. BOMBS was the first thing that sprung to my mind but Dan assured me they had gotten off the train for a cup of tea and the train had left without them! He was right thankfully!
Arrived in Haridwar and was starving so we headed to a placed called "Big Ben" Not English as expected but the food filled a welcoming void in my stomach. Afterwards we headed back to the trainstation to get a Vickram(big TUK TUK) to Rishikesh. Got in and the driver had to ask many people where it was... not likely sunshine. We got back out argued with a load of Indians for a while and then returned to Big Ben for them to order us a taxi! Finally got one equipped with ac but he wasnt goin to put it on unless we gave him an extra 200rps!! Instead we wound all the windows down which I think was pissing him off but who cares! Finally arrived in a red hot Rishikesh and had to cross a footbridge over the Ganges to our hotel. Beggers everywhere leading to the bridge and then just before the bridge a big fat begger counting "heaps" (your word Steph stole it lol) of cash. These dudes were pro's! Got to the Hotel Jaipur Inn-was very nice and had satellite! Didn't do much for the rest of the day and ate in the rooftop restaurant at night-very tired from being up rather early.
Day 2:
Got up earlt this morning to go look at other hotels in the area. After 2 hours, 3 lost pints of fluid through sweating, countless bad smelling hotel rooms I finally decided that our hotel was the best. It had ac, tv, nice food and only cost 850rps per night!
After breakfast I decided to have a walk to the post office to buy some stamps, been away forur weeks thought maybe should send the parents and grandmas some postcards! Actually it was too warm so didn't do anything just hung out by the Ganges! This place for some reason just relaxes you and makes you want to do absolutely nothing! Thus thats what I did-nothing!
Later on I headed for tea upstairs in the restaurant and was joined by three girls from Israel and later by Dan a guy from the USA. I knew he wqas gay straight away but he was cool so I wasn't afraid. Not that I'm Homophobic its just I've had alot of attention here in India and more than 50% is from the males (remember Steph I scored far more looks than you!) These girls were quite funny but fricking yoga mad. Later I found out that one of them had been to Leeds many times and infact had a sister who is married to an English guy and lives in Rothwell! They also told me of some nice hotels nearby and only costing 150rps per night, I had to check them out.
Day 3:
After waking up freezing many times(dont know how to work the ac-you probably have the same problems at work BDL-well when you go!!!) I decided to get up! Met Dan (USA or GAY) had some banana porridge then went to check out the other hotels. We checked out a few and decided to stay in a place called "Gangotri" run by this young guy who thought that the UK was in the US! Poor b*****...I gave him a quick geography lesson then of course told him due to his curiosity that to get muscles no you don't use steroids but just eat as much as you can and go to the gym with MR James Greenwood. Of course he knew him, he had seen his show over here!
When checking out of the Jaipur Inn I was only charged for one night, as a traveller this is always good news but in a place where bad Karma is highly spoken off I decide to return for lunch and if asked, then I would pay. Just my luck I was asked! After lunch, I was feeling very lathargic so just lazed around....its great and so tiring not doing anything!
