All alone in the big wide world
Woke up on the train at 05.45 by the guy delivering papers because he was singin and terribly doing so! Had breakfast with my roomy (Vineete) who was a journalist. Rolled into Mumbai station at around 08.00 and like the first day I got here the weather was delightfully raining with a temp of +30 degrees! We both caught the Local train which is always an experience to a place called Dadar. Much to my enchantment and great planning all the hotels were full as it's the Ganesh Chaturi festival tomorrow! Vineete said I could stay with him but I'm quite weary of Indian dudes so I kindly turned him down! After 30mins walking around in the rain I gave up hope on finding any hotel and so caught a taxi to the Colaba area of Mumbai! It took around an hour or so due to rush hour traffic and this traffic is no ordinary traffic too guys!! Wondering around the Colaba area I managed to stumble across a fellow catholic who was the most Indian looking guy ever but had the name Paul. I went into his Church area for a look then he kindly escorted me to the backpacker place I was looking for. I dropped my things at the hotel and had a walk around the area, within seconds I had made a friend who would not go away so after ten mins I had to tell him to get lost and that I didn't trust him, then out of nowhere "you wants hash?". Far too warm for all this nonsense so off I went to check out the local cinema. Bollywood, Bollywood oh here we go a Western film-"The Break-Up" (Aniston & Vaughn). Sat in there some weird music came on and I could here everyone stand, the national anthem, I just sat there until the usher came and shone his torch on me, I'm not Indian I thought but he began to shake his torch more violently so I stood up. The film itself was going great then the interval came....off I went for popcorn and managed to get lost in the cinema but made it back just in time. Guys don't see this film as literally all they do is break up-that's it!
Afterwards I went for another wander and was asked twice to be in one of there Bollywood movies, everyone knows they make the white dude out to be the bad guy and they always win so I said no! Just hung out for the rest of the day doing nothing just looking forward to leaving here first thing in the morning!
Last Day in India....got a taxi to the airport at 07.40, so I could get my flight to Singapore at 11.20am to make my connection to Bangkok. On the way there we stopped at every red light and had beggars in the window also. Queued for 10mins only to be told when at the front to go back to the entrance to have my bag security strapped....GREAT. Back in the queue and back at the front again I was no told that I wouldn't be making my connection and that I would be staying for a night in Singapore...even better!
Anyhow I got checked in and made my way through only to be again told some good news. The plane was delayed for 2 hours because of a puncture, someone is having a giraffe here today with me.....Come on Ashton come out now you've had your fun! Looking out of the window at the plane there was 30 people around the front wheel and this time it was literally all Indians and no chiefs!
Finally departed at 14.00 with Singapore Airlines...very nice especially the hostesses! Got camped out as there were about 20 people on the flight. I watched a few films while drinking Singapore slings and just having the crack with the hostesses teaching them northern words!
