All alone in the big wide world
Day 6:
Days 4 and 5 were just spent lazing around eating saying bye to Dan and Georgina (see you guys in Bangkok!) and synbathing oh and buying that cool red woolley hat that you'll soon see!
Got up at 09.30am to go book out taxi to Manali, I've been here almost a week and am so spaced out I'm nearly horizontal-had to get back to reality! Got the taxi booked for 4600rps, although quite expensive we managed to split it 3 ways as Dan was now coming!
Met for lunch with the others and some Nepali style Tofu with rice-absolutely delicious! For afters I had Banana and chocolate pancake...mmmmmmmm! Got to talking to this proper stoned Irish man who in fact spoke with a Scottish accent...drugs hey??? He told me how great Manali was and how I should buy my drugs from Vashiste, afdter telling him many times how against drugs I am he still said "yeah man, but you try this sh*t it doesn't harm nobody" as he sit in some weird position slurping soup! However although his specialist topic was grass he also told me of a beautiful waterfall and hot springs in Vashiste and of course a place where the Royal Enfield could be hired!
Later on decided to go for a jog as felt llike I was gaining some fat! Bumped into Meran and Ronnie (girls from Israel) they told me of a nice waterfall some 30mins away. I decided I would run there, after about 40minms running there was no waterfall in sight only endless views of the river. It was getting late and "I haven't even packed yet" so I decided to return. On the way back I bumpedinto Dan (USA) who's eyes lit up as I was topless as it was too warm! He was heading to swim in the Ganges and asked me to join him. Don't know if it was a proposition but he wasn't scary and I could take him so off we went.
It was absolutely freezing (see my face in pic!) but it was nice to be cold rather than absolutely boiling! after cutting my foot (quite bad) and thinking I would die from it we decided to go back and just in time also as it started hammering it down just as we got back to the hotel!
Met the others for tea, having to eat under candlelight as the whole place had lost power. Walked to the taxi place in the darkness and pouring down rain and left for Manali at 20.30pm. Lucky for me it was a TATA Indicar- a cheap knock off of the Fiat Punto(why would you???) I folded myself up and got in the back. After about 20mins driving we stopped at Dehra-Dun train-station. The scrawney little driver got out and scurried over to a Jeep full of more "scrawney" little locals. This was quite weid and made me think they were going to rob us-how safe could I be a gay guy and a tiny girl, Excellent!! I wasn't letting these guys get my stuff! I told Crystal to go to the shopping area where it was well lit and I got out of the car chest pumped up to the max with utter confidence and shouted "Whats going on??!". He quickly run back over very appologetic and drove us off! I could relax for the next 2hours or so thinking that they were following us and would murder us-I need to stop watchin American movies!
Just as I started to relax we approached an underwater bridge, no it wasn't supposed to be like this it was flooded!
If we attempted to cross surely this piece of crap along with us and our belongs would be dragged away like a scrap of paper in the wind! Ny confidence was restored when the worls skinniest man crossed pulling a cart full of wood-or maybe it was his under fed family I don't know it was dark! We passed through it ok although I could feel a sideways movement. Finally I could relax... no couldn't this guy was training for the world rally championships except he was dreadful. He thought 1st was a good gear to keep using no matter what speed and the breaks- "the what" he responded!! I decided to take responsibilty for the driver and stay up all night making sure he stopped regulary for tea and a rest! HAving been told by the guy we organised our ticket with that the journey would take around 12hrs we were quite happy to endure such uncomfortableness. However our hopes and dreams were shattered by the driver telling us it would take a little over 17hrs to get there!
He was correct, 17hrs later we finally arrived in Manali at 15.30pm!
