All alone in the big wide world
Day 1:
The first day in Delhi....was dreading it after our drive from the trainstation last night! Shared a room with Stephanie so her being a Sheila she took care of me and made me feel safe!
I got up to go to the toilet and thought I would check the time becuase it felt so late but it was still so dark in the room! It was 11.45am, the reason it was so dark was the stupid hotel had no windows, we were supposed to be meeting the others for lunch at 13.00pm. We quickly got ready and got a TUK TUK into town. We were meeting at The Imperial hotel, I walked in dressed like a right tramp and everyone who worked there tret me like a guest! Ha Ha stupid fools I only wanted to use a nice toilet what didn't have the delightful arromatic smell of urine!
Waited for them until about 13.15 then decided they weren't coming. So having spotted a Pizza Hut on the way into town how could we resist this artery clogging food! Me, Steph, Dan and Georgina order a pizza each and shared them among us!
I managed to finish all mine but the others didnt so I boxed it up for later...eating western food no matter how unhealthy makes a great change from all these spices!
Afterwards went for a wonder to find a place where I could buy a train ticket to get me out of this place asap.
As a capital city all it has to offer is more fricking horn-blowing crazy drivers!
Managed to find somewhere but they required my passport and as I dont carry it for fear of losing it we had to return tomorrow. Even better news...tomorrow is Independance day! No way am I coming into this place to get blown away by some crazed bomber! After wondering around the city for a few hours I was sick of carrying the pizza and no matter how much it broke my heart I had to ditch the pizza. I knew later I would terribly regret doing so but I did my good deed for the day and gave it to a begger, poor lady it was horrible anyway(poor choice Steph!) Finally returned to our hotel and went upstairs to the restaurant...ha ha a room that had some tables in it and primary school chairs, just what I needed after a stressful day in the city! However ordered some food from the menu, which of course was from a different hotel. Thus we had to wait half an hour or so for it to come, it was tryely worth the wait as it was gorgeous!
Day2:
Independance day in India so we decided we weren't going more than 50m from the hotel.
We went to a South Indian restaurant across the road from the hotel and having already walked out of this place the previous evening we sat down for breakfast. This kind of food wouldn't fill an Etheopian let alone a hearty Englishman! We were having a goodbye breakfast for Erin and Sarah so had to be there. To make sure I got something half decent I went for the fresh fruit salad (fresh my ass! maybe it was fresh a week ago!). As this wasn't that good I had to choose my next favourite thing on the menu-Black forest gateaux. Bearing in mind that it was breakfast the dish I had chosen was absolutely delicious!
Nothing alse to do after the breakfast so just hung out in the hotel where I thought I would be safe!
Later that night we were on the rooftop of our hotel watching the celebrations-for some reason everyone was flying kites and the horizon looked like Beirut with all the fireworks going off....well I think they were fireworks! For tea I had the same as last night...its a good idea in India that if you find a nice dish and it doesn't cause stomach upsets to stick with it! After tea went over to the South Indian with Steph for a butterscotch and caramel ice-cream as there wasn't any black forest left! It was very busy but managed to get seated before many of the locals which was great to see and especially the looks they gave!
Day 3:
Got up at 08.00am to go get a train ticket to get out of this place as soon as possible, with all the stories on the news etc you just think that any moment you will be blown apart! Managed to get a ticket but train wasn't leaving until bloody 07.00am tomorrow morning!
Went back to the hotel to get the girls and then headed into the centre to the restaurant & bar PiccaDelhi. Here I had the best dish that I 'd eaten in India, it wasn't spicy, not greasy and absolutely gorgeous! Also it was followed by a ferrero Roche dessert which was also followed by warm chocolate brownie and ice-cream!
After our meal I went with Steph to the airport to see her off-don't think she wanted to leave but if i'm honest don't think anyone would want to!! HA HA-Miss you!
Afterwards I returned to PiccaDelhi to get in the bar "The Drunken Duck" Sampled a few beers then found the JD & Coke. Was so nice to have some familiar alcohol rather than the stuff they had been serving us which is full of glycerine which causes all sorts of bowel trouble!
Later on returned to the hotel to get a good nights sleep in preparation for the train journey in the morning to get me as far away from this place as possible!
