Today we said goodbye to San Cristobal, and hello to Palenque.
The bus took about 6 hours to make the 221km journey north east. The roads were winding through the hills, with some spectacular views at times. The first bus driver had some pretty cool house tracks playing, which Richelle and I were more than happy to dance to or at least remember from our youth!! The movies on the other hand, they played 3 of them, each one crappier than the last! By the last movie I couldn't follow what the hell was going on and it was in English!! The poor Mexicans would have stood no chance!!
The second driver started rocking out some mariachi music, so I tried to catch some zzzz's...... only to be woken each time by going over yet another one of the 20000 speed humps we encountered today!
Eventually we made it to Palenque! It is an older looking town. This town was built purely for the ruins, therefore doesn't have any Spanish architecture like the other cities we have visited up to now!
The first thing to hit you is the heat. Apart from Acapulco, the temperatures so far have been in the mid-20's. We have now hit the heat! First job, change out of long pants into shorts, check! Second job, turn on air conditioning, check!
Tonight we went for a quick orientation walk around the city of Palenque, and then had an early dinner!
After dinner we went for a walk around the main drag!! Watched a little bit of a concert that the city of Palenque had put on! They had beautiful costumes and headpieces and were doing some folk dancing which was great to see!!
