Today saw me travelling a further 244km South from Taxco to Acapulco, with the drive taking about 5hrs!
I'm pleased to announce that speedy was replaced by a much more sensible driver 'Cousin Slow Poke' - which is probably why instead of taking 4 hrs, the drive in fact took us 5!! Oh well, at least I got here in one piece!!
Today wasn't made easy by the fact that the driver didn't speak English and I don't speak Spanish!! Which is fine... I was more than happy just to look out the window and mind my own business. However the drivers son was along for the ride today (don't you love bring your kids to work cause it's school holidays day)! The poor kid, probably just wanted to hang with his friends, instead he is pointing at every tree covered mountain explaining to me in English that it's a 'green mountain'. And trust me, there's a hell of a lot of tree covered mountains on this 5 hr trip!!
He did do a great job and I gave him a pretty good tip at the end of the trip... Which he was stoked about!! It was well worth it, as he did give me plenty of warning to get my camera ready for up coming attractions!!
We made a memorable stop along the way, for a "bedroom stop".... I started imagining the movie 'Taken' and things started to look a bit shaky... But then I worked out that it was for a 'bathroom stop', phew crisis averted.... Or so I thought!! What came next was something that nightmares were based on!!! I went to use the toilet... And found that the door was locked... Occupied! So I waited, and waited until eventually an old woman surfaced, looking very hot and bothered, like she had just done 10 rounds with Mike Tyson! I shrugged and then went in... And then the reason that she looked like that was explained!! Holy crap... The stench and aroma that consumed that toilet was breath taking.... Enough to drop an elephant in his tracks!! But courtesy of 2 cups of coffee and a glass of orange juice at breakfast my bladder was going to win this battle!! So I took a deep breath and entered... I seriously held my breath for the entire time.... And lucky there was no toilet seat, as the last thing I wanted to do was make an accidental touch down!! I came out and looked at the next lady and just gave her one of those good luck looks! When she came out we both just looked at each other and started laughing!! See, looks can say a thousand words!!
Anyway, I arrived at my hotel and got booked in!! Again I'm winning in the hotel stakes!! The cover photo is the view from my room!! Although weird concept, I have to wear a fluro green arm band (similar to those you get at concerts) for the entire time that I'm here!! Kind of reminds me of a tracking bracelet that crims have to wear!! At least everyone is wearing one, so it's not one of those 'let's make fun of the tourist' things!!
The temperature in Acapulco is a lot different from Mexico City and Taxco, at 7.30pm it's still 32C and blue skies!
I spent the afternoon at the adults only pool, soaking up the sun!! I must admit, you could tell I was the new kid on the block as I was whiter than the towels... I kind of stuck out like dog balls!!!
I have to give it to the Mexicans... They are comfortable with their bodies and more than happy to show it off!! I wish I had their confidence!! Maybe tomorrow I will drop the board shorts!!! I know daring!!! Although in saying that, the Mexicans might have body confidence, but I could seriously count only 2 people at the pool today who actually knew how to swim!! Thank goodness the pool isn't too deep...
I think Acapulco is going to be the time to kick off the heels and relax!!!
