Mark And Jan's Tandem Tour Of New Zealand 2010
Martinborough to Wellington via Rimutaka incline and a train! 45km.
Tailwind from our 5* campsite cabin to Featherstone for coffee, croissant & the lovingly put together film about the Rimutaka Incline. For 60 years until 1955, 5 small steam locomotives were used to drag the Wellington to Masterton trains over the 300m mountain. The track was abandoned for a tunnel & is now used for walking / biking. A welcome detour into beautiful bush & away from traffic. Dithered in Upper Hutt about staying on the bike or getting a commuter train into the city. Train won out & installed ourselves in a very slummy backpackers ready for 24 hours of manic city sightseeing.
