Day 40 Omarama to Arrowtown 158km
New Years Eve. An early start as we had a big climb over the Lindis Pass and central Otago can get hot. We made good time and felt OK so decided to keep going. Lunch in Cromwell and a bit of a dither about an upcoming gorge. The usual advice to try to avoid it but no real alternative so in the end we cycled on. And it was really lovely. Dramatic and steep sided with rushing water at the bottom. And after the gorge back into vineyards. We were becoming weary so stopped at a gourmet cheesery(?) for refreshments, watched a bungee jumper and limped the last 12km into Arrowtown. A historic gold rush town beautifully restored or preserved and looking like a film set.
Pitched tent and wandered around. Burger and beer and looking unlikely we'll see in the New Year....

john w Happy new year. The photo of Arrowtown dosn't do justice to the scenery described in the narrative. Lets have some photos of this wonderful scenery! Apart from that, we hope you have a really great New Year.
