Day 36 Geraldine to Lake Tekapo 89km
This was billed as a hilly day. Basically uphill. The owner of the backpackers we stayed in in Geraldine warned us. Hot, sunny, no wind. Take plenty of water and sunscreen. And hot it was, at 8am. By ten it was overcast and spitting. Gentle rain by 12. Heavy rain by 3. Then as we went over Burkes Pass we hit the headwind and a tough last section.
For the last few days we've been warned that the roads would get busy and that happened today too.
So not my best day.
Even in the rain, Tekapo is lovely though. Really blue lake and mountains in the background. And the woman in the I-Site found us a bed for the night. We arrived at our B&B soaking and freezing but were greeted with a cup of tea and a hot bath.
Then a Japanese meal with David and Julie who are staying here too.
The forecast for the next few days is grim. Something to do with a Norwesterly and a Southerly meeting and getting stuck. I'm told we need a high to come along and that will sort it all out.

Simon Thacker Hi guys- amazing, epic! Did you fix the gears? Has the wind swung around? Can't wait for next report! Green with envy! All the best from a wet and windy Pz.
