Day 48 Tuatapere to Invercargill 87km
Nice weather, early start, ideal cycling. Rolling hills down to the south coast and along eastwards past surf beaches towards Invercargill. We hit Riverton at 10ish and it so happened to be their 175th birthday party day. So we watched the town ukulele band and a procession of old tractors and motorbikes and cars. And I cleaned the bike and we went to the museum and generally had a fine old time. Rumours of the wind direction changing to a north easterly panicked us into getting back onto the bike at 1ish. Arrived Invercargill and had a wander round their museum and a very deserted city centre. Rural NZ still closes early on Saturdays. A quick bite, early cinema and then a stroll home at 9pm in brilliant sunshine and a clear blue sky.
We are far south now and it's properly light until 10pm and doesn't get dark until 10.45. Blooming cold though.....
