Day 54 Curio Bay to Pounawea 74km
What a day! We now know what a dying southerly is. Awoke to beautiful blue skies and warmth. Cycled to Niagara Falls. It just about sums up New Zealand. A tiny wee waterfall, self deprecating, tongue-in-cheek sense of humour. "World famous in New Zealand". Then to Paoatowai and the amazing Lonely Gypsy Gallery. Run by Blair Sommerville, it's hard to explain the quirky, wondrous beauty of his gallery. Found objects lovingly turned into beautiful automated art. We've tried to capture it on video but it's almost worth visiting NZ and definitely worth visiting the Catlins for his gallery alone. Then a hilly but awesomely beautiful ride on a dirt road via the iconic Purakaunui falls and Catlins lake to Owaka. And to this campsite. Again, we opted for a hut on the beach. Watched the spoonbills dredging for food whilst we ate crisps and drank cold wine. Forecast good for tomorrow. Life doesn't get much better....
