Day 22 Waipukurau to Pahiatua 96km
Not much to say about the day. We cycled, and it went up, up, up, up, down, up, down, up, down, undulating, flat. The scenery was farmland all the way. We had intended to stop in Woodville but there wasn't much there except a fish and chip shop and the Woodville sign (see image) so we headed on to Pahiatua where we had a motor camp field to ourselves. Usual shower, lovely supper, book, bed. Slightly disturbed night, heavy drizzle and a noisy possum in the nearest tree. Possums make a noise somewhere between a shriek, a growl and a grunt, have huge eyes and very soft fur and are regarded with universal loathing here as they strip trees of their canopy so efficiently. They are shot, trapped and poisoned but seem to be doing very nicely thank you.
Oh and we stopped in the Tui brewery for a look round their museum and a small "which Tui do we like best" tasting. Me Blond, Mark Reserve. Nuff said....
