Day 38 Twizel to Mount Cook 68km
Awoke to sunshine and a clear blue sky. Beautiful ride up to Mount Cook, the highest mountain in Australasia and part of the Southern Alps. Stunning scenery the whole way. We had planned to tramp up to Mueller Hut but unfortunately it was full. So we are camping in a DOC site at the base of the mountain. We tramped half way up anyway, snoozed in the sun, walked down and headed to the visitor centre and Edmund Hillary Museum. Then an expensive meal and a couple of beers and I'm ready for my bed. Trying to stick it out until it gets dark as I imagine the night sky will be spectacular. Hoping to make it but looking a bit doubtful right now....
