Day 1 69km Reinga to Pukenui Robert from rent a dent drove us up to Cape Reinga with the tandem strapped to the roof. Cape Reinga is how Lands End ought to be, a wild and dramatic landscape where the Tasman & Pacific meet, with no tourist tat anywhere in sight. The first 20 km are all national park splendour enjoyed from good Tarmac. For our first fully laden ride the 20mph crosswinds were unnerving but it was sunny and the road was very quiet. We're still bracing ourselves for the first 40t logging lorry to overtake. Definitely chafed. We arrived after the shops were shut & wimped out of camping. The new frugality begins tomorrow.....
