Happy Birthday Renee!! We started the day with Renee opening her birthday presents - a pair of boardshorts, a singlet top, a kaftan and a leather Pandora bracelet with a dolphin charm. She loved everything! Aside from celebrating Renee's birthday, our main task today was to get the caravan in shape for storage up at Bullsbrook around Upper Swan. We departed right on 10am (checkout time) and made our way through the countryside and The Vines area with lots of vineyards, many of which we'd heard of. It was about 45kms away, a bit further than we thought, but we got there eventually, and the caretaker Alan was just behind and let us through the gate. The property's 100 hectares with about 20 vans, etc stored there at the moment. It took over an hour to get things sorted including getting the bikes into the van as they're not coming back with us.
Finally, we left the van and headed into the city to see the Hargreaves from Ulladulla who we arranged to meet at Kings Park Botanic Gardens for a catchup and play. The park is quite stunning with a fantastic view over Perth and the Swan River; the grass is perfectly manicured; the gardens are very nicely done, and the memorial is perfectly positioned. Thankfully, our friends were also running late, so when we arrived it was great to have a coffee and relax for a bit while the kids had a quick game of cricket. Ellen who is also 11 had created a beautiful handmade birthday card with her siblings for Renee, so which was very, very thoughtful and Renee was delighted.
After a picnic lunch and stroll through the gardens, we said our goodbyes, and as promised to Renee & Eamon, went the coast road up to Hillary's Boat Harbour, hoping to have some time at the fun park 'The Great Escape' - unfortunately it was 4pm by the time we arrived, and with only 60mins till closing, we agreed to wait until we return to Perth and make a good day of this place because it really does look like fun, with water slides, trampolines, a rope course, etc. We had a wander around though, and stopped in for a beverage at the Breakwater Bar and checked out the restaurants and a few of the shops.
Around dusk, we headed back to the cabin where we readied ourselves for dinner. We drove down to Innaloo to the Botanica Restaurant and had a nice meal with a very large fish tank beside us with some beautiful fish, and also a band playing great 80's music, much to Renee's displeasure! After way too much food, we headed home for our final night in Perth and the last of our journey.
