We woke at 6.30am ready for a big day. We each have an overnight bag, plus Dad has a golf bag, plus a backpack for carryon luggage, so we had to stuff all of our belongings as best we could into any space available in any bag, which we managed quite well including stuffed toys! We left the caravan park at 8am, earlier than expected, and made our way back to Bullsbrook where the van is as we are also leaving the car there. We had a nice breakfast stop at Gingers Roadhouse in Upper Swan and arrived before 9am with Alan there to meet us. It took a bit to unload our gear and finalise everything we're leaving behind - the flies were shocking (not sure if it's from the 20-odd sheep and Rosy the Llama) but we tried to be as quick as possible. Alan's wife Carol offers airport drop-offs and pickups for $70 which we thought was a great deal, so we packed up her landcruiser and headed towards Perth Domestic Terminal 4.
We arrived at the airport in plenty of time, checked our bags in and went straight to the Qantas Club where we fell into the lounge chairs and looked at each other with amazement that our trip is over, and we are on our way home to Sydney. A mixture of looking forward to seeing friends, whilst sad that our fantastic trip has come to an end - it seems so long ago that we departed!
Our QF580 flight departed right on time, and got into Sydney about 30 mins early. We approached and landed on the east/west runway so couldn't look out for our house, but waved to Nanna instead. In the taxi on the way home, we looked for things that had changed - only a few to speak of - it was as if we'd never left. Opening the front door was strange - the house had a kind of musty, unlived in smell and was spotlessly clean. Renee & Eamon immediately ran around the back to jump on the trampoline. Mum had left some flowers for us, and also a cheese/nibbles platter and a fruit platter in the fridge, knowing we were home late - so we spent an hour or so just wandering around the house, reacquainting ourselves with the place, and generally dazed that we were back!
