We took our time packing up and had bacon & eggs for brekky, eventually leaving around 10.30 to our next destination the Southern Forest area of south western WA. We stopped at Nannup for morning tea and arrived at Fonty's Pool around 1pm where we set up right next to the Prelc family, so that was most convenient!
This area is well known for its hugely tall Karri Trees, so we visited the Diamond Tree which is a fairly short 52 metre one, compared to the nearby Gloucester Tree (72 metres) and Bicentennial Tree (75 metres). They are all available to climb, with steel pegs at 1-2 foot intervals and some chicken wire around the outside for protection - seriously! So we went up about 20 rungs and decided it was high enough and scary enough. Lots of people go all the way up and Renee & Eamon became more confident each try, however, Mum & Dad were more than happy for them to just go a little way up.
The place we are staying at Fonty's Pool is well known for its historic 1 acre fresh springwater pool, so we spent the afternoon on the lawn with Joe and Trudie with champagne, beer and nibblies, while Renee, Eamon, Zoe & Sam floated around on the tractor tubes or jumped off the highboard, and kept themselves well occupied.
Back at the campsite, the children joined into a game of backyard cricket, so that was great fun too, while the adults cooked up dinner. After a feed, Renee & Eamon watched Rio in the Prelc's camper trailer, while Mum, Dad, Joe and Trudie shared a couple of bottles of red and we decided a nice long bike ride in the morning would be a great activity for tomorrow.
