The morning was lovely, with the wind all but gone as we left the bustling Port Hedland after a stop at a mobile coffee outlet. During the car trip, Mum & Renee caught up on the scrapbook, and Mum & Eamon started catching up on the Expenses - it doesn't take long to get behind with these tasks!
We stopped a couple of times along the way with the main one being at Auski Roadhouse for lunch - it was an option for us to stay here, but seeing it was only another hour onto Karijini so we continued, and arrived at Dales Campground around 3.30pm. The Camp Host was very helpful, and we were allocated a fine spot in the Bungarra Loop. Once we set up there's wasn't much time before sunset, so we quickly drove to the Fortescue Falls Carpark and did the walk to Fortescue Falls which involved about 150 steps down - the falls were flowing so it was really pretty. On from there, there was an option to go to the Fern Pool so we did that - along the path we went and suddenly Renee spotted a black snake about 1 metre long on the rock face ahead of Eamon & Mum! They quickly retreated, and waited while the snake made its way around and under the rock - we all helped by stamping our feet (which is meant to chase them away!). We quickly scooted around to the beautiful pool that also had a couple of small waterfalls - and Renee & Eamon had a quick swim and Mum sat on the edge with her feet in the water. It was wonderful and refreshing after quite a dry and dusty day.
Back to the van and we adjusted to being without power - we've only had 1 day at Devil's Marbles where we weren't plugged in. It's no big deal, but you do start to rely on power for things such as microwaves, laptops, fridges, etc. We have a generator, but won't use it tonight. The fridge and hot water is running on gas, and we cooked our pork chops on the weber and potatoes & vegies on the gas cooktop, so all is fine. It's a little warm, but our trusty 12V fan we purchased after the air con went bust has been brought out and is working a treat.
