Dales Gorge was on our hit list today, so we went straight in that direction around 9am. The start of our loop was Fortescue Falls where we visited yesterday afternoon. We had a quick swim to cool us down before we took the walk along the base of the Gorge which was very pleasant and involved walking along lots of shale type ledges and stepping over parts of the water in gorge, making it pretty good fun. At the end of the gorge was a nice swimming spot called Circular Pool, so we had another swim in there - it was really refreshing and a bit quieter than the falls. After drying off, we retraced a little, and took the steps up to the Three Ways /Circular Pool Lookouts and followed the rim of the gorge back to the carpark. About a 3 hour journey all up, so we were done walking for today!
So our next stop was the Visitor's Centre to check if our tour on Saturday to Rio Tinto mine was going ahead as it depends on numbers (not enough yet, but still a couple of days to go). We also found a bit more info on a few of the other gorges that we're visiting tomorrow. We had a lazy afternoon around the van: Renee & Eamon working on their handwritten journal, and Mum & Dad trying to get the generator started - finally they got it going, plugged in a few appliances and we all headed to the falls for a late afternoon swim. Once home, Renee, Eamon & Dad spent time updating the expenses spreadsheet and Mum cooked the chicken teriyaki stirfry.
One of the highlights of the bushcamping is how quiet it is (even with some generators), because there's heaps of space between each camping spot and we feel really remote. There's signs about dingoes, however, we haven't seen any yet!
