Very warm and windy today, we lounged around this morning, enjoying not having to be anywhere at any set time, or see anything in particular. Eventually we went out for brunch at a very pleasant little place in the Town Centre. We then did the 40km tourist drive that took us around past the beautiful beaches of Esperance including West, Salmon, Fourth and Twilight Beaches. The road curves around the cliff tops, past the wind farm also. We stopped for a look at Pink Lake where salt is produced - the lake was more white than pink!
We drove back around, and eventually settled for a swim and bodyboard at West Beach - the water was so refreshing on such a hot day, and the waves were pretty good. During the day, Eamon had lost a thong, so we headed back to the Shell Servo 3 hours after filling up with petrol and the thong was found in the bin!
We grabbed some lunch and drove over to Lucky Bay about 60 km east of Esperance as we'd heard lots of great things about the Cape Le Grande National Park. At the picnic area, there were a couple of really tame kangaroos wanting food - they will go into tents and eat anything left out! Coincidentally, the Prelc family were setting up camp there, so we met up with them on the beach for a couple of hours and had a lovely swim (though the water was significantly cooler than West Beach??). We headed home around 6.30 so were mindful of wildlife on the road - sure enough 3 kangaroos were near the road, and a little one darted right in front of the car - thankfully Dad was able to brake and swerve to avoid him.
