On our way out of Derby, we had to stop at Indulgence Cafe for a coffee as it looked such a nice place. The coffee and juices didn't disappoint and were a great start to the day. We arrived in Broome around 2pm and had a bit of a drive around - it's a lot more spread out that we expected!
Renee & Eamon were very excited to check into the Cable Beach Club Resort - it's been a few years since they (and us!) were at such a place. The van has a nice spot out in the back carpark and our bungalow in the resort is a beauty - lounge, kitchen, dining, main bedroom, kids' bedroom and 3-way bathroom. Great location close to the pool, activities, etc. We had afternoon tea and drinks by the pool - so relaxing.
There's a natural phenomena that occurs every full moon in Broome, where the moon rises above the mud flats over Roebuck Bay and causes a fantastic visual effect - it's called the Staircase to the Moon - as luck would have it, we're here at the right time, so we duly caught the local town bus the few kms to Town Beach, and followed the crowd to the hill to get a good vantage point. Precisely as scheduled at 6.35 pm, in the pitch black, the moon began to ascend up out of the horizon in a small red glow. It took only about 5 minutes for the entire moon to appear and gradually glisten across the mudflats in front of us. It was very unique, amazing and quick!
We were on the bus within 30 mins and back to the resort, where we checked out the dinner options at the resort, and decided on Thai Pearl: we had some beautiful Thai food with the pool and its waterfall as our backdrop. After a long day, we were all exhausted and asleep before 9.30pm!
