We headed back down the Kakadu Highway again today to a place called Jim Jim Falls. It's a bit of an adventure to get there - 40kms of sealed road, followed by 50kms of unsealed road - much of it quite corrugated. Then 5kms of 4WD on a very narrow sandy track. Finally a 900m walk over rocks and large boulders past a large billabong with lots of crocodile warning signs to get to the Jim Jim Falls. The area is beautiful - even though the falls are dry at this time of year, the 'beach pool' and 'plunge pool' are full of water, and apparently free of crocodiles as they wouldn't climb over the rocks to get there - we didn't test it out, but lots of others did (it would have been pretty safe in hindsight).
On the way back to Jabiru, we dropped into Muirella Park and checked out the lovely looking Darradjin Billabong (with the associated warning signs that we would definitely heed). The Bubba walk goes from here - there was a recent warning about an aggressive Buffalo on the track - glad we didn't do that walk!
The usual dip in the pool when we got back was nice and refreshing after another 35 degree day. Mum went to the gallery in the hotel for champagne and canapés and a browse at the artwork. We had an early dinner to prepare for our departure in the morning.
