Early start today to join the 2-hour Sunrise Breakfast Tour of Katherine Gorge in the Nitmiluk National Park, leaving at 7am in a boat with about 40 others. The check-in parkland has trees laden with bats, and a few wallabies sprinkled around. Our boat was an open-sided style, and we were assigned a table for 4. We soon departed, and floated through the 1st gorge. It was really beautiful with lots of greenery among the tall walls, and during this time we were served a yummy hot breakfast.
When we got to the end of the 1st gorge, there were massive rocks forming a natural barrier to the 2nd gorge, so we disembarked, and walked a few hundred metres through some wonderful rocks and giant aboriginal artwork many metres above us to another boat. This boat took us through the 2nd gorge, which was much more spectacular due to its length, and the sun rising over the water was really lovely (and warm!). We passed lots of cross-gorges (left to right) and also crept into a little cave with hundreds of little asian wrens with their nests in the roof of the cave. Renee & Eamon found a friend in 8 yr old Bailey who lives in Rozelle and plays netball at Cintra Park at Concord!
On the way home from the gorge, we dropped into the Katherine Museum, but didn't think it worth the entry fee so just browsed around then left! We spent the afternoon doing schoolwork, scapbooking, etc while Dad had a rest (he's picked up a bug worse than Eamon's - it's ManBug!). We cooled off later in the afternoon at Katherine Springs before coming home, and packing up ready to leave tomorrow. Renee, Eamon & Mum enjoyed a nice dinner at the Katherine Country Club while Dad unfortunately just had a little bread.
