Took a while to pack up today, but we were on the road by 10.15am east along the Namatjira Drive towards Alice Springs. We stopped at Standley Chasm around midday, which is the best time to view the site as the sun streams through the gap in the 80 metre high walls an hour each side of noon. The chasm is a pleasant 20 min walk from the carpark, and it is quite stunning. We enjoyed coffees and hot chocolates at the kiosk with a log fire, so it was nice and relaxing.
Back on the road for the short trip to the Big 4 MacDonnell Ranges Caravan Park. We got an ensuite site which was a bonus. Mum spent the afternoon with the kids catching up on mathletics and other schoolwork, washing, etc while Dad went to Woolworths to do the shopping!
We spent the evening catching up on Big Brother and Offspring as we haven't had TV or internet for a few days. Lamb, mash & beans for dinner with some red wine was a great end to the day.
Next few days we'll be here at Alice Springs.
