Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Sunday- used the Hyatt gym and Jacuzzi. Took Rosie and Dave to the Sunday Market. We had lunch at the Hyatt's Mosaic restaurant, which was yummy. Then we headed to the school so give them a look around. Twas a bit wet but they still said the school was pretty. Joyce played them a song on the guitar, then we headed back to KK to hit Wisma Merderka. Dave bought a funny culturistic shirt and looked at the Chinese VCDs.We shoved as much of my stuff as was physically possible into Rosie's suitcase. Monsoon hit- got a teeny bit soggy. Went for cocktails a bit damp. Had long convos about world issues and nuclear weapons, nice nice. Chatted as the sun went down, then headed to Tong Hings to buy some Rice wine and get some munchies. Back to the hotel room to booze up and eat our Maggie noodles. We then ordered room service, yummy! Off to bed after that.
Monday- after being nibbled to death by bed bugs at NBC, I met with Rosie and Dave for a brief breakfast. Then off to the Filipino market and Centre point for a short browse. Then jumped in a taxi to Little Italy and had to scoff down our food as they were cutting it fine to make their flight to KL. Said our goodbyes then I head to run some errands before getting a taxi back to the school. Tried to finish off my scrapbook- getting there. The deaf girls next door were practicing a dance for a "Teacher's Day" celebration they were having that night, so I went to watch and join in a bit. I leant them some funky masks I previously bought for my Birthday night out, they were chuffed as. Spent the afternoon with the kids and the kittens, then joined everyone in the hall in the evening for the performance. It was a surprise for the Asrama Teacher's so everyone was all hush until they entered, then there was plenty of cheering and jazz hands from the deaf kids. Their dance was fab, with one of the senior guys taking the pee and getting quite a response from the crowd! I had to go on stage to help cut the cake- again! Then had to remain on the stage to shake all of the students hands. They all lined up and came onto the stage to greet all of the teachers. I didn't really know what to do to greet the boys, cause some were Muslim and they shouldn't shake my hand, but even Rakeema was touching everyone's hands, so it seemed to be OK. Some of the girls were OTT and there were ecstatic hugs all round- and from most of the deaf boys- bit inappropriate, but ah well!
Took loadsa photos of the kids, before heading for bed.
Tuesday- Edward and Peter and their teacher picked me up in KK and we head out to visit a water village. Twas a long drive but gave us time to all catch up and it was totally worth it. It wasn't a touristy thing at all, it was just a local water village that we kinda just went into. Was so dube- walking over wooden bridges with most of it missing and ever plank on its last legs. It was really beautiful though. All of the local boys were making and flying their own kites over the village. The sky was dotted with these pretty little kites. It was such a fab community- people carrying buckets off fish, bathing on their wooden patios (if u can call it that!), chickens and roosters cockadoodaling, toddlers waving at us from windows, rickety boats tied up, was oober cool. Twas quite funny hearing Edward say- "Kirsty, look out for that bucket of fish", you know u gota be in some random place in the world when you hear someone say that. Or as we said, could easily be in a chippy back home (random convo about chippys- chippy sauce I tell u!)
We wondered- or tried to balance our way, about, taking some pics before heading back.
On the way back to KK, we stopped at a random stall next to the road and Ed's teacher bought us charcoaled coconuts to try. Once the top was cut open, they steamed and the coconut water was pretty yummy. They also gave us coconut yoghurt but twas a bit like jelly. Next we had Mee noodles and some dodgy looking meat balls. Monsoon hit, so headed back. Ed and Pete showed me around their school then Ed and I headed back to the city centre to have satay then go to the cinema to see "Over the Hedge"- def better than "The Wild"!
Back to the Asrama and I decided to do something about a few items of mine that had gona missing. During one washing sesh, my hat and shorts managed to go missing, when I went to pick up my washing. So Joyce informed Rakeema, who got all of the girls downstairs and we had to check everyone's lockers. Really didn't have the energy, but stealing happens loads in the asrama so Joyce said we would be able to find it this way. Unfortunately there was no luck. But this morning, a couple of girls found my hat in the girls showers- bit suss. My fave shorts are still missing tho.
Spent this morning editing the GAP notice board and starting my packing for Vietnam- I leave tomorrow- so exciting!!
Kirsty and I have been excitedly txting, counting down the days, and now we leave 2moro! Our friend, Annie, who is coming with us, has just had her appendix out, so I think we'll have to take it easy. Looks like we might be able to meet up with Sarah as well, which will be banter!
Been getting some designs together for clothes I wana get tailored. Wish I could actually draw though. Received some nice letters from home today, which is always nice. Aman is due back at some point today- no idea when though, so I'm just gona keep getting my various chores done.
