Little Kirsty Ventures to Pastures New
Was so hyper when we met with the others in KK. First, Aman and I paid for our flights to Singapore and to the East Coast. I tried to get flights for Kirsty and I to Vietnam but even with the 70% off deal it was really expensive cos there was no direct flight and would mean we would have to get a couple of internal flights that aren't discounted. So think I'm gona wait for a cheap Air Asia deal.
Guttingly received a phone call saying that diving had been cancelled for Saturday due to poor visibility cos of the recent stormy weather. We were all miffed but decided to go out and hava crazy night to forget about it.
We all chilled out in the North Borneo Cabin, catching up and finding out how the boys were since they've hada really tough week with food poisoning and all sorts. We also met up with Tom, who we met last weekend. He's re-writing the Malaysian Borneo Lonely Planet book so was giving us some really good tips on where to go in Sarawak (he said its amazing there). He's also doing the East coast next week, so is gona let us know where is best for us to visit in our hols. We invited him out to Little Italy with us- which was the best meal ever as usual! Aman and I got our 15% discount loyalty cards, which was even better! Oh my the bruschetta there rocks!!
We headed to "Beach Street" (got bars and restaurants in a wee square) to "BB Café" to have a few games of pool and drinks. Met an extraordinary group of people. Tom introduced me to a Hungarian guy and a German guy that were both really nice and pleasant to talk too. But then there was this fruitcake!! He was telling me that he was born on a ship and didn't know who his parents were so was adopted into the British Queen's Empire or something and that he had fought for the Empire in the Gulf and he was in Basra for ages and he even had those army dog tags around his neck. But he really freaked me out when he said that he has to go on a death mission when he reaches 40 years old (and he's 35 just now). He said that everyone that works for the Empire goes on a top secret mission when they turn 40 and they never return. So we were like- "you can't do that- you gota run away- save yourself, live"-blabla. And he was like- "I live for the Queen, I fight for the Empire- it's what the Queen wants, we must all die when we reach 40". And we were all like- whaaat. And then he said that he had a daughter that was 6 yrs old and just started school and that she had recently joined the Empire and that when he dies when he's 40, his daughter will be brought up by the empire and will also fight for the Queen. Was all very strange.
Then he started saying that he was gona be in so much trouble for leaking all of this info to us. So then we decided it was time to leave the crazy man alone.
I ordered some nuts and they came with little fishes mixed in- niice!
Headed to the one and only club in KK- "BED". Was quite good- really good live band, playing covers- kinda varied- like Linkin Park and Black Eyed Peas- with 2 female dancers at the sides of the stage loving themselves!
Aman befriended a Chinese girl and they were boogying and it turned out to be this girls bday and she hada huge chocolate cake at one of the tables. So when her and her friends left, she said we could finish it. We were like- yeees- was the best cake I've tasted here.
We stayed at "BED" most of the night- highly amusing dancing skills viewed overall- not gona mention any names (too funny). Then headed to a bar/restaurant at about 3am where I had a yummy cheese and ham toastie-mm. Every one had something but when we tried to pay- they didn't seem at all interested in taking our money. We even lay it on the counter and they wouldn't take it- so the boys were like take our money or we'll leave. They didn't reply although they were looking at us and could perfectly well understand English, so we left.
Got to bed in the teensy hours of the morning, only to be awoken about 2 hrs later by the crazy zooming motorcyclists down Gaya Street- got like zilch sleep! Headed to the Diving Centre to our final piece of theory. Unfortunately it took a little longer than expected (like 4 hours!!) but at least we went through the theory really thoroughly and we all feel pretty confident about everything. So happy to find out that the Whale Sharks should be sticking around the coast until April (feeding on the plankton), so we still have a chance of seeing them- yeey!!
So we all passed our theory exam! Whoopie! So will def be doing our 1st dive next weekend. Still got the rapids to look forward to tomorrow and tonight we're meeting up with Madlen and Jade (the other Ozzies) for the first time since we got here 6 weeks ago. They really wana go to "BED" but I'm kinda still recovering from last night and I'm not sure how much of a good idea it'll be going rafting after no sleep.
Def up for a good night tonight tho. Catherine and I might just put our feet up in front of the TV in NBC and order pizza and watch a DVD-sounds like my idea of fun after a long week.
Aman and I had a one to one in the "Coffee Bean" where I told her how peed I was at the teaching soo I've decided to have a word with Johnston on Monday and tell him that I'm teaching the deaf students and that for the hearing students, I need a practical venue. I don't know whether I have the right to say that I will no longer teach in the hall, since maybe I should be grateful they have allowed me to come to the school to help and I should take what I get. But then part of me thinks that the school should be grateful that we are there to help so should at least provide us with a descent working space. But I don't really know what the right viewpoint to take is.
We had satay sticks for lunch today- mm, really yummy. Was quite harsh, cos even though Aman and I and the boys are used to children begging (cos we're in KK quite often- we see it quite a lot), Catherine and Georgie haven't really experienced it so when Catherine was approached by a little boy with his palms outstretched at lunch time, she didn't really know what to do. She was gona buy him food and she was really uncomfortable when I said not to give him anything (cos Aman always says they need to learn that they can't get money off every white person and need to find a job etc instead of relying on begging). So Catherine didn't know what to do and this little kid had his bottom lip trembling and the works- and he did look pretty scrawny. But then as she was about to give him money, the owner of the restaurant came to shoo the boy away and the boy just laughed in our faces and as he ran away, money fell from his pockets and he was just totally taking the pee. Felt so bad for Catherine cos she genuinely couldn't believe the kid would put an act like that on to get money.
Anyways- I better go get some more pics put up on my site- then pant shopping with Georgie!
