Saturday night was quite the adventure.
First, after we got back from Baden-Baden I got a ride from Elisabeths host mom back to my house in Ahldorf. Once I got back here I told Angelika that we were going to head back into Horb by Taxi to meet everyone at the Catweazle, and she kindly offered to give us a ride. I had orginally though it would be me, Elisabeth and two other students here from Mexico.... well when we show up the student from China decided she wanted to come to. So I felt horrible, because Angelika had to cram 4 girls in the backseat of her soapbox car. Luckily, she was really cool about it though.
We arrive at the Catweazle and of course they're playing American music. I swear they see us and put it on for us. At one point I realized we had heard 3 Fall Out Boy songs in a row. However, after drinking some beers we had a brilliant idea. ..
Brian lives in this town outside of Horb called Bildechingen and his host parents had told him that there was a festival tonight and there would be a big party so he should come and bring some friends. So after those few beers we thought it was something we could miss since he said when he left the bus stop had literally been turned into a bar. So, we decided to walk...
We originally thought it was about a 20 minute walk. Nope. We walked 3.5km UPHILL in the pitch dark with little cars flying by blinding you occasionally. Probably the dumbest idea ever. We were all convinced that we were going to kill Brian. Until we finally get there and the festival was amazing!
There were probably 4 tents and a big hall full of people dancing and drinking the night away. So what did we do? We joined of course. I swear they knew the words better to some English songs better than I did! At one point we found a hall with a stage full of Germans dancing and procceed to join them. I'm pretty sure we looked like fools, but who cares? Not me.
3.5km walk, in the dark sucked... but the party was worth it.
Sunday morning was not so great though. Since I didn't get home until almost 3:30am I was very tired when I woke up the next morning. I ended up waking up at 10:30am because I didn't want to be rude and sleep all day. But, I just hung out around the house, went for a refreshing walk and wrote some post cards. Later in the night I got online and got to see and talk to my mom, dad, vinnie, jocelyn, jadyn and blake over video chat. Pretty much made my night.
All in all, a very sucessful Wochenende (Weekend) in Deutschland.
This morning I woke up, and of course something else would go wrong. My eye was crusted shut and my knee hurt so bad I could barely walk. From having such an adventurous weekend I didn't give my body anytime to fight my cold, so I think it went to my eye... Or hopefully I don't have pink eye. It's just a bit swollen and bloodshot. But still itchy and annoying.
Class would go today though and my German is getting much better, and I'm learning to accept that I will probably be corrected atleast 100 times a day (or more).
After school I sent my postcards and was very takenaback. A postcard cost 1 Euro to send from here to the U.S. (That's like $1.27, Outrageous!). But, I then took the inevitable trip through Kauflaund (a huge, very neatly stocked, overwhelming supermarket). I bought a few snacks and some water with no carbonation since I almost drunk-raided my host famillies fridge Saturday night. (Well I did, but just ate left over dinner and washed the bowl the next morning before they seen.)
I got home though, and with my German getting a little better I was able to sit down and actually have a good conversation with Angelika and Helmut. I forgot to mention earlier that my house has solar panels on the roof (which I think is amazing!) so I had a whole conversation about solar engery with them. :) I also don't know if I said before that my host mom taught Spanish... If I did then I lied. We were talking today and I finally realized that she is LEARNING it through a class that she goes to once a week and she doesn't work. First I thought she was a secretary for my school, then a spanish teacher... that's my bad German for ya!
Anyways, this is getting pretty lengthy and I should probably get to bed so I can hopefully get better. Good news though! I finally found a website where I can get my TV shows :) Yay!
Tschuss alles!
Fun Fact: I think I had more written homework in grade school than I do here. (Although thinking and speaking in German all day is pretty much homework.)
