Just incase you were wondering, this week was pretty uneventful. Just school as usual. The most exciting part of the week was one dinner when my host mom asked me if I wanted a piece of stomach? No thanks.
After a long mental debate though I finally decided to go on the trip this weekend to Triberg (pronounced "Treeberg"). It's a small village located smack dab in the middle of the Schwarzwald (Black Forest), and is home to Germany's highest waterfalls and the world's biggest Cucko clock.
We took the usual three hour long Saturday morning train ride (to get to a place that's literally a half an hour by car, but they insist on getting cheap train tickets). The last half an hour of the ride was absolutely amazing. Going through the Schwarzwald by train is breathtaking. The scenery is unbelievable, I pretty much felt like I was in Harry Potter. Especially with all of the trees covered in snow… This is something else that I can't describe properly in words so you will have to look at my pictures.
Once we got there, we trekked up the trails to the see the highest waterfall. This was also very pretty with the snow. Of course everyone had to take tons of pictures in front of it and right when we go to take a huge group picture Elisabeth drops her purse over the railing… into the water!!! Luckily, it got stuck on some rocks and we have Brian with long limbs that was able to climb over the railing and retrieve it for her. The only major thing that went wrong is that she now has a waterlogged phone. Good thing her camera was in her pocket!
After we seen the waterfalls, we hiked up another long road to see the world's biggest Cucko clock. So, the guy that owns the clock has it set up to where you can't see the actual clock side without paying a Euro to walk through the clock and out the door to the other side. (It's was pretty much like paying a guy to go in his backyard.) Of course I paid, and got to see a 2-foot bird pop out at the top of the clock.
This was the point where it started blizzarding. For some reason my waterproof boots are no longer waterproof so by the time we got to the Schwarzwald museum my feet were sopping wet. We walked through the museum, which wasn't too exciting except for the part where you could walk into a makeshift cave/funhouse to look at different types of rocks, or the part where you could pay a Euro to watch a little electronic train drive around a miniature model of the Schwarzwald. Woo…
When we were done with the museum we started to head to the train station and got side tracked by a German bakery, with the most delicious cake I've ever had in my life. However, our detour cost us almost missing our train back to Horb… we were casually walking back and then our tour guide decided to finally look at her watch. Let's just say, we ran. All of us…
Anways, we finally got home after a 2 hour train ride and it was bedtime for me. However, if you ever come to Germany I highly recommend checking out the Schwarzwald. It's a sight not to be missed, and I def. plan on going back in the summer!
