Monday 14th September - Fish for dinner
At the city end of the Quai were these fishmongers selling their fruits de la mer. The fishermen had set up little stalls on square tables about 1.0 x 2.0m with a variety of fish displayed.
We had decided that we would have fish for dinner and you don't get it any fresher than this.
No English so we pointed to a type of fish that we thought we would like and asked for deux. So the fellow picked the two fish up and showed them to us and we nodded vigorously and said Oui oui. But then we asked him to fillet them for us. Much was lost in translation as he gutted them and put them into two plastic bags and we handed over our €12 and everybody seemed happy.
We purchased some postcards for mum and a shopping bag for the supermarket with a lovely Marseilles picture on the side and got directions to the Tourist Bureau.
