Today we left Kobe and moved to our last Japan home of the trip, Hiroshima. We were up, packed (with our bags considerably fuller now) and out of the hotel just on 10am. We went straight to the station via a subway and stopped for a breakfast at the same place we had eaten at two days ago. We were both feeling slightly worse for wear after our night out so it was good to get some food into us but we still felt a bit sketchy.
We boarded our Shinkansen and settled in for the trip which was around 70mins and went directly to Hiroshima with no changes which was nice. Shannon felt pretty rough on the journey and tried to have a sleep.
When we got to Hiroshima we had a 10min walk to the hostel, K's House. We have stayed in another version of K's House when we were in Kawaguchiko and this one is just as nice. We are on the fifth floor and finally have a Japanese style room!
After consulting the hostel's recommended restaurants folder we rugged up (it feels colder in Hiroshima) and walked to a nearby dipping ramen place. We haven't had dipping ramen before and it was pretty good. You get a big bowl of noodles with vegetables and just pick that up, dunk it into the hot ramen sauce and away you go. It was enjoyable but I thought a bit more labour intensive than regular ramen. But you do feel a lot lighter afterwards which is nice.
We strolled down to the main shopping district after lunch and spent the afternoon walking in and out of shops and gaming arcades. Shannon even won two little Neko Atsume stuffed toys. We had afternoon tea at Choco Cro (finally!) and went to a terrace at the top of one of the department stores where we got a good view of Hiroshima Castle.
We caught the street car back up to our hostel at 5pm-ish and spent an hour making our futon beds and resting. We were still both not feeling 100% so we were happy to have a quiet one and try to get an early night. We went for dinner at a nearby Yayoiken, which after having Ootoya a few times this trip, I think I now prefer Ootoya due to a delicious sesame salt they have available to sprinkle on your boiled rice.
When we got back home we showered and snuggled into our futons to watch an episode of Jessica Jones.
Tomorrow we are going to Okunoshima, or rabbit island. I'm so excited!
