Today was our last day in Kobe and we had set the alarm for 8am so that we could go to Arima, an onsen town in the mountain ranges of Kobe. Unfortunately we didn't quite make it out of bed at 8am so we decided to change our plans and stay down in the city instead.
For breakfast we walked towards the station and found a cafe slash bakery called Honest Cafe. I had a calzone type savoury and a delicious caramel whiskey friand and Shannon had his favourite bakery treat on the trip so far, a cinnamon scroll. Shannon accidentally knocked a baguette off a shelf whilst we were picking our things and he caught it before it fell and placed it on our tray so we ended up with a takeaway baguette as well. Haha.
We caught the train to a station about 20mins away and walked through a quiet neighbourhood to get to the Sumi Aquarium. We spent a few hours exploring the aquarium and we saw the otters and seals being fed. It was an okay aquarium but some of the exhibits did look a bit sad and Shannon commented that a few weren't set up correctly.
After the aquarium we headed back to Sannomiya station and tried to find this chocolate shop that I had heard about that makes fancy chocolates. We eventually found it but it didn't have the fancy chocolates shaped like animals that I had seen online so I didn't end up buying anything.
We had a late lunch at an Ootoya before heading into a basement food level where I bought a piece of cheesecake. We stopped at a Vie De France where Shannon bought some bakery treats and we both had an ice coffee and I ate my cheesecake. It was quite tasty and better than the Pablo.
It was raining fairly heavily by now and we didn't have any ideas of what to do. We attempted to see a movie but couldn't find one we wanted to see. So instead we made our way back to the hotel and had a rest.
At around 5:30pm we decided to head out and have a few drinks at a place nearby called Cafe Ovest. They had ¥500 beers and wines and we sat there for three drinks and watched Peter Pan and then Home Alone on the projector they had.
At 8ish we went back to the Green House for dinner where I ordered exactly the same food I had had last night but Shannon ordered some karaage and a flambé. I also finally had a hot toddy which I have been going on about for a year since I didn't have one when we went to Yokohama. It was okay, not that great, very whiskeyish.
At 10:30pm we were going to head home when we thought we'd go find some karaoke. Up near the station there was an amusement world and on the 11th floor was karaoke! We had some trouble trying to communicate with the lady and we couldn't find out if there were any English songs but in the end we decided to give it a go and just see how it went.
We got into our room and it turned out there were plenty of English songs! We ended up spending 3 hours singing karaoke. Probably an hour longer than we really needed to. We got back home at around 2am.
It was a fun night and a good way to end our stay in Kobe.
