Happiness Is The Road
DAY 19 - PREVELLY TO LEEUWIN - FIRE,ROOS & ORBS!
Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, Western Australia
I woke up after a great nights sleep. The camper at night is so snug and cosy, being amongst nature and not sleeping in a house definitely suits me. I don’t even mind having to walk to the amenities black. It’s all part of the fun. I’d much rather have this than an ensuite. Also waking up somewhere different nearly every day is good. The clouds looked threatening but hopefully there won’t be any rain. I checked out of the camp site at about half 10 and got my $20 key deposit back. (key to the boom gate and showers). I’d really liked my stay here. I drove up the coast a little bit to a car park at Gnarabup Beach. From here I walked in the sea along the beach all the way back to Prevelly where I soaked up the sun on the beach and read a bit more of Charlotte Street by Danny Wallace. From here I walked a bit further up along the coast path to the mouth of the Margaret River. Although there is water in the river the flow of water and the height of the water isn’t sufficient to reach the sea. There is a sand embankment about 12 ft wide that separates the river from the sea. I then walked back to Gnarabup where the camper was along the coast path and watched a surf competition that was taking place a bit further up for a while. Once back at the camper I headed a bit further down the coast, only a short journey today, about 30 k’s, to Contos Campgropund. This is the camp that the guy at the petrol station in Margaret River had told me about. It is in the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park. I wasn’t sure what to expect here as this was the first National Park campground on my adventutre. I got there about 1pm and the reception was closed. There was however a note on the door stating that the camp was self registration. I had to take an envelope and fill my details in and place my camping fee of only $7 into it. What a bargain! The envelope then had to be posted into a box. The map of the campsite showed there to be a few different camping areas and they all had different names. I was drawn to the area called Hamelin Hollow. The campsite is set amongst trees and bush and each of the sites are very well spaced out and fairly private. There was hardly anybody here and I had a drive round slowly checking out the available spots. Each spot has it’s own picnic table and fire ring. I was drawn to plot 13, my favourite number. It was free so I had to go there. There was a space for the camper at the front and then behind it I had my own large circular area of grass with my picnic table and fire ring in it. This little area was surrounded by trees and there were kookaburras in the trees. The first thing I needed to do was check out the facilities. There are no showers here, and the toilets are non flush. They are in little huts (Dunnies!). There is a proper looking loo with a seat, but your waste goes straight down a long drop into the ground. They stink a bit but it’s fine, all part of the fun and adventure. There are also gas bbq’s here and some sinks to do washing up. I was so HAPPY to be here. This place is just bliss, completely amazing. So peaceful and away from it all. I couldn’t wait to get a fire going later. I went to get some fire wood from the big pile of chopped wood that they provide for you and had it all set up for later. You also get a metal cover for the fire and a hook to go over it so you can use the fire for cooking. I had my lunch and caught up on my blogs in peace and serenity. Whilst I was doing this a couple of German girls came by and asked me how you pid for your site. I explained the self registration to them. They were backpacking and working their way around until May and really liked Australia. I then went for an exploration. I had noticed on the way in a sign for the beach so I followed it through bush and scrubland until I could hear the sea. I came to a headland and cliffs and could see the beach below. This was another breathtakingly beautiful place. I felt on top of the world, so happy and free. What a feeling! After I had completed talking in this wondrous site I went back to the campground. Just as I turned a corner coming round to my pitch, suddenly there it was …………. my first kangaroo!!! It was a beautiful and magical sight, and then I saw another smaller roo. They both looked at me acceptingly and carried on with their business of chewing the grass and leaves. They weren’t in the least bit bothered by my presence and seemed very friendly. They let me take loads of photos of them as you can see below. When I was getting the fire ready it suddenly started raining which was no good as my firewood was getting wet. I tried to get some of it into the camper. Luckily it didn’t rain for long. One of the german girls. Maria, came by and asked if they could have some firelighters as there’s had got ruined by the rain. I gave them some and offered to help with their fire if they needed it. I cracked open a beer and started getting my fire ready. I had also chopped up some apples and bananas for the possums. As the guy at the petrol station had suggested I left some around my site and up in the trees. I was interested to see what would happen. I’d got my fire going and was really enjoying myself. There’s nothing better than a real fire and as it was starting to go a bit cold, it was great to warm to. Then Maria and Ingren came round to ask for more firelighters! I said that I’d come over and help them. I got their fire going and then came back to mine. It was still gopng but as the logs were a bit damp it wasn’t doing particularly well and not good enough to cook on. Never mind, next time will hopefully be nice and dry and I’ll do better. By this time it had gone pitch black and as there are no lights on this site I cooked my roo burgers in the camper. It’s a good job I had a torch here as I idn't want to run into a roo going for a poo in the middle of the night!! After tea I went outside with the torch to see if I could spot any possums, I couldn’t and all my fruit was still there! The fire was still just going and smoking and I thought that I’d take some photos with the flash in the dark and see what I might catch. For those of you who don’t know ever since I have been seeing Jay I have been catching orbs on film. Orbs are believed to be ghosts in the form of balls of light. They are life forms that travel in groups and are believed to be the human soul or life force of those that once inhabited a physical body here on earth They are here to help and are often drawn to spiritual people and those with a strong energy particularly love energy. There were loads here which made me feel happy as the orbs are good spirit energy and here to help me with my adventure. There is one particularly good photo of the orbs in and amongst the swirling smoke from the fire. Extremely satisfied with the day, I listened to some music and went to sleep. One of the songs I was drawn to today was Dreaming Light by Anathema, it's a very beautiful, moving and spiritual song. It sums up perfectly how I feel about life. Nite nite and I hope the Possum doesn't get you in the night!
"Dreaming Light" by Anathema
Suddenly... life has new meaning
Suddenly... feeling is being
Suddenly... I don't have to be afraid
Suddenly... All falls into place
And you shine inside
And love stills my mind like the sunrise
Dreaming light of the sunrise
And you shine inside
And love stills my mind like the sunrise
Dreaming light of the sunrise
Dreaming light and ...
I feel you but I don't really know you
I dreamed of you from the moment I saw you
And I've seen the sunrise in your eyes
The sky... the sea... the light
So live your dream beneath the northern horizon
Be at peace, set your heart in flight again
For the light is truth...
The light is you...
