Happiness Is The Road
I woke up in the middle of the night and walked over to the facilities. There were about 3 kangaroos munching the grass by the light of the amenities block. They all eyed me suspiciously and then carried on. The door to the gents was open. I half expected a kangaroo to be in there leg cocked at the urinal but it was all quiet. The kangaroos were still opposite my camper in the morning including a really cute baby one that kept snuffling inside its mummys pouch. When I was leaving the site I saw a really long snake slithering across the road. I drove around it and took the photos from the safety of my vehicle. Just glad that it was kangaroos and not snakes I had bumped into in the night! I had a long drive to do today, nearly 300 kilometres to Hopetoun where I had decided I would stop for the night. The highway was very quiet as usual and I enjoyed the drive. There's no stress driving over here, due to the lack of traffic and congestion. The M60 this is not! It's a good time to listen to music when driving and with the tunes blasting out I soon arrived at Ravensthorpe where the turning to the coast for Hopetoun is. I got some fuel here and then went the further 40 k's down to Hopetoun which is a small settlement on one of those beautiful bays that they do so well in South Western Australia. I found the camp site no problem and there was a very Aussie bloke wearing a hat on reception. I was told that I could go anywhere I wanted. I love it when you can choose your own site. This site was a really ace, quirky, tatty and rambling site amongst trees and behind the sand dunes. There were little lanes going off everywhere to all sorts of lovely nooks and crannies. After driving round for a bit I settled on a nice big private spot backed up against the dunes. The facilities for such a tatty looking site were really good and basically I just chilled and read and walked along the beach for the rest of the day. Later on I had my usual lovely tea and did some orb spotting in the dark later. Not a cloud in the sky today so the night sky put on an awesome display. Nite nite.
