Said goodbye to Broome and Nan and Pop yesterday. Had such a nice time there and with them we were all a bit deflated to leave. But as always it was good to keep moving. We got into Derby by lunch and it was hot. 35 degrees. So once we set up we had a quick drive around to look at the Prison Boab Tree, the longest trough and a couple of local art centres before we needed to find a pool. No pool at the caravan park but the local pool is nearby and lucky for us was free yesterday. Today we did the drive to Windjana Gorge and Tunnel Creek via the Gibb River Road. We had originally planned on camping at the gorge but decided against dragging the van out this road. Once diving we were happy in the decision. The dirt road was very rough in places with deep corrugations. The car handled it fine and we arrived at the gorge early to beat the heat. The gorge was beautiful and the banks were lined fresh water crocs. Our first siting so far. From here we drove a further 40kms to Tunnel Creek. A 500m long cave system where we waded through water infested with more crocs. Thankfully we made it through alive. Tully loved being in the dark, once again clambering up rocks and putting his newly found mountaineering skills to the test. Back to camp by mid afternoon for a well earned rest.
