We travelled to the Burrup Peninsula and found some aboriginal rock engravings on the rocks which are over 30,000 years old. There are over half a million engravings across the Peninsula. We then drove in to Dampier to view the red dog statue (have you seen the movie?) before returning to Karratha.

We set off for Karratha and find it's still wet in the Pilbara as we travel east. Many side roads off the highway are closed and mine vehicles we meet are all covered in red mud. Not sure if this is any better than red dust. Near Karratha we have to wait for an iron ore train crossing the highway (Mum would have beaten it to the crossing!). Although they travel at 60 km/h they are 236 carriages long and we had to wait almost 10 minutes for it to pass.

After completing our NAPLAN reading and numeracy tests we get to the Post Office in time to post the papers back to Victoria. After lunch we travelled south to Learmonth Jetty for some fishing with our new rods and reels. We caught a range of fish including 10 whiting which Dad filleted for he and Fraser to crumb. After the test papers arrived in yesterday's we made a start on the Year 5 NAPLAN testing expertly supervised by Mum. It was a busy morning completing the English papers and we enjoyed a walk into town afterwards. Sad to be leaving the Ningaloo reef in a couple of days here's a picture of a jellyfish Dad took last week.

We decide to stay in Exmouth a few more days while rain falls to the east of us in the Pilbara. We drive to Yardie Creek in the Cape Range National Park where Dad and Fraser complete the gorge walks while Mum and I paddle the kayaks up Yardie Creek as far as we can go. I really enjoyed the colourful cliffs and birdlife along the way. After a picnic lunch we spend a couple of hours snorkelling at Turquoise Bay on the way back to Exmouth.
