Sunny Cairns!!! NOT! We spent 7 days here and 5 of them was wet wet wet. The caravan park we stayed at was so boggy with mud and soggy wet grass it was hard to keep the van floor dry and presentable, let alone the dog! We ended up getting the dog a haircut which made it easier to keep her presentable. Then I had a haircut to make me more presentable and then I thought Al could do with a haircut as well, my effort of course.
We are not that fussed on Cairns itself....the forshore/esplanade and wharf is lovely but always very crowded and hard to find parking. We drove out to Crystal Cascades which was magnificent and photos do not do it justice. We walked along the cascades for 1.2km and all along was magic waterfalls and scenery. The water was gushing like a torrent and it was really lovely to see a waterway so active. Take note (in the photos) of the 'stinging tree' warning! I wasnt going anyway where I could be stung by a tree!! FNQ wet tropics can be a scarey dangerous place.
Lake Morris (aka Copperlode Dam) a freshwater reservior dam services Crystal Cascades which is nestled amoungst rainforest which is in itself worth seeing. The rainforest beauty does not show up in photos. The trees have growth all over them and they thrive. Check out the base of a tree I am standing near in the photos. Everything is huge. Allen decided to be superman and pretended to shoulder a fallen tree...hahaha we can see it has been cut on the path Al!
Believe it or not, our tans are fading as the weather has been so wet in Queensland for a few weeks now that we are not seeing any sun! Oh well I guess we can give our skin a time to recover before we tan up again.
