FARFRUMWURKEN
We set sail on Ginger and Eloy's pontoon boat today for a "three hour cruise" on Chapala. Lake Chapala is located about 45 km southeast of Guadalajara, and is situated on the border between the states of Jalisco and Michoacan. At 1,525 metres (5000 feet) above sea level, its approximate dimensions are 50 miles from east to west and an average of 7.8 miles from north to south.
Chapala is an extremely shallow lake, with a average depth of 15 feet and a maximum depth of 34 feet. It is fed by the Rio Lerma, Rio Zula, Rio Huaracha and Rio Dueuro rivers, and drained by the Rio Grande de Santiago.
It was a great day to be on the water although the "happy gas" (bromine) seemed to cloak some of the neighboring mountains in mist. Some lunch, some drinks and some tunes made for a terrific day. Thanks to both Eloy and Ginger for the invite - you guys are amazing. It seems that Deb and I had a little too much sun - we're suffering a little with red knees - Deb's freckles on her arms have even seemed to run together.
It was back home to get ready for our dinner invite to Don & Dale's house. We had promised Dale that we'd bring some appies, so I had to get my butt down the hill to the nearest Thai restaurant to pick up some spring rolls and chicken satay's before J&C picked us up at Casa Forster. We were treated to a fantastic "asian themed' dinner which was just fantastic. From there it was tequila shooters on the patio to watch the sun set behind the neighboring mountains.
Thank you so much guys - you've made our second visit to Ajijic so much fun. You have made us feel at home here in Mexico and we can't wait until we come back.
