Montevideo, Uruguay – Day 34
Today was another great day – we did a 4-mile walking tour of the city center. Thankfully the port was right there so we got underway on the first tender off the ship. Deb and I were moving before some people finished their breakfast. Montevideo is a pretty decent town. We managed to get into one of the national galleries and there was an interesting interactive art display that provided some pretty interesting shots that I've attached.
There was a great antique market selling soup to nuts in their little kiosks, Deb was quite interested and we spent over an hour in the square going to tent to tent. One the way back we just had to stop at The Sea Port Market. Reminiscent of Toronto’s market just a little, but, this was ten times better. They grilled meat, meat and more meat and just a little saaaseech to round out the grill. It was a place that we just had to have lunch in. The building was over 150 years old, and there must have been 10 – 15 Asado houses cooking their specialties. We ordered the smallest portion that we could find (which was still huge) along with frites and chimichuri – we were in heaven.
We bumped into Vince & Karen just outside of the market and returned back to the ship with them as we’d planned to have dinner together – it was the light night for our regular Texas cash game so we both needed to be there. All went well at the cash game.
Buenos Aires is just a short, short distance from Montevideo so it’s basically slow-speed all the way to BA so that we arrive at 7:00 a.m.
