FARFRUMWURKEN
We've just passed and survived the two-week mark here in Ajijic with two more weeks to go. Today is Mother's Day - We've made the calls, we've sent the cards - even though were 3,858 kilometers away from home base we can still get it done.
The men of El Dorado put on a great Mother's Day celebration. It cost $100P or $8.00 per person to attend and that included all you could eat and drink. The offerings consisted of Mimosa's (champagne and orange juice), pancakes, mexican eggs, bacon, sausages along with a host of home-made desserts.
They did it up right - rented tables and chairs - with tablecloths with apparently a turnout of just over fifty (50) people. After the festivities Deb and I came back for a siesta.
For dinner tonight we decided on German so we walked down the hill to Joanna's which is just off the Caraterra. The walk was a little tough for Deb given her recent bout with a virus. At the luncheon today, we heard that about seven residents have come down with the same symptoms as Deb had so I guess it wasn't "turista" and just the case of a virus or flu.
For dinner, Deb was still a little tentative so she decided to have a hamburger with home fries and I opted for the schnitzel. It was good, but not quite the same quality as our favorite Abbotsford haunt - Bavaria. John/Stacy can you pass this along - we'll be back for our regular in a couple of weeks. John - I asked for LEMONS and got LIMES - so I tried it anyway.
The cost for dinner tonight was the most expensive to date. Our cost was $357P or $30.00. Given that Deb was a little warn out from the walk down, we cabbed it home $50P or $4.00 which was the best way to go. More news on CNN today, but no where near to us here in Chapala. Apparently a total of 49 decapitated people were found in bags somewhere near the border. According to CNN all these people are connected to the two major cartels here in Mexico with the message from these killing a show who's boss. This is really a non-issue here, other than we just received an email from the El Dorado security staff, speaking to some new security policies, lock changes and the like.
The wind has picked up and we hear thunder in the background so we might be in for a little storm tonight. Hopefully I can get a little video of this as you won't believe it. Beyond that, it'll be a quiet night here in the casa - Survivor on tv and then off to bed after the news. I've scheduled a round of golf here at the Atlas Golf & Country Club which apparently is one of the better clubs on the way into GUAD. From what I'm being told, caddies are required so maybe this will help shave a stroke or two off the total score.
Heading into Week 3 - We've got a pretty good feel for things here. With my recent (local purchase) of Rosetta Stone I've been working on my Spanish so even the basic discussions and restaurant requests are getting easier.
Buenos Noches Amigos - Stay Tuned !!!!!!!
